VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —

Crews are on the scene of a 1,800-acre wildfire in Volusia County.

The firefighting efforts in Tiger Bay State Forest are ongoing as firefighters continue to battle a huge blaze in the area. A new breakout has been reported Monday evening, and as a precautionary measure, the authorities have decided to close Rima Ridge Road from SR 40 south to Indian Lake Road to ensure the safety of the wildland firefighters.

Firefighters say the fire is 85% contained.

Both Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach are being impacted by smoke. There are no homes or buildings in danger, according to Florida Forest Service.

The closure will remain in effect until the authorities can get the situation under control and deem the area safe for travel.

The forest's closure meant campers like Trelana Frazee had to cut their trips short.

"What can you do? You leave," Frazee said.

She was supposed to stay at a campground in Tiger Bay State Forest for four nights.

"We're two nights in," Frazee said. "This would have been our third night."

But then she got a phone call.

"We were in Daytona Beach enjoying everything," Frazee said. "I got a call from the State Forest Service that said you need to go back to your camper and evacuate."

When they got there, she says someone had already prepared her camper for what could come.

"They had showed up they had fire retarded our whole area," Frazee said. "They moved our propane away from the camper. So it looked like they prepped us for whatever is coming."

But for Zach Roy, from Indiana, his family didn't even get a chance to set up camp before they were told to clear out.

"We had just arrived and saw all of the action," Roy said. "The cars coming in and out and the helicopters and planes."

The forest service says this fire actually started Saturday but was 100 percent contained. Then Sunday the winds picked up and the fire started up again.

The forest service says crews worked in the air and on the ground to contain it. Frazee saw some of the work as she left her campground.

"You could see the smoke," Frazee said. "It's definitely darker as you're driving in and of course the helicopters and very low fly-bys."

Despite a camping trip cut short, Frazee's happy to be out of the forest.

"Very happy they contacted me, they got ahold of me and they got us here and we're out of here," Frazee said.
